Abstract

LAGUARDA, Rodrigo. The Atmosphere: Spheres of Gay Sociability in Mexico City, 1968-1982. Secuencia [online]. 2010, n.78, pp.149-174. ISSN 2395-8464.

This study is an approach to the spheres of sociability constructed as a result of the appropriation of a global identity -gay identity- in a specific area -Mexico City- when it appeared on the scene of the Mexican capital. The text shows the importance of these places in the construction of the definition of an identity, in other words, the creation of an "us" in opposition to a fundamentally hostile environment. The evidence (whether constructed or traced) in the article consists of oral testimonies, memoirs published by witnesses of the time and documents produced during the period of study by militants in the Mexican Homosexual Liberation Movement.

Keywords : Identity; space; gay; Mexico City..
