Abstract

PLA, Sebastián. Teaching History as an Object of Research. Secuencia [online]. 2012, n.84, pp.163-184. ISSN 2395-8464.

In History, as a discipline, there is a binary logic between research and teaching. This logic places teaching in a marginal position with respect to research, although both aspects of the discipline constitute central practices for the historian. The hierarchy reduces History teaching to a simple transmission of knowledge from researchers to large segments of the population. This is why teaching History is normally considered an infertile field for research. This article aims to break this logic and to demonstrate the richness and complexity of the teaching of History as a field of research. In order to achieve this aim the article discusses concepts such as History Didactics, History Teaching, History Education and Teaching History. It also seeks to place the teaching of History at the boundary of various disciplines, and it seeks to highlight some methodological and theoretical problems that allow us to better understand the processes of constructing meaning about the past within the school.

Keywords : Teaching History; Research in Teaching History; History Education; History Didactics; History Teaching.
