Abstract

AYROLO, Valentina. "The Taste of Sovereignty": The Experience of Territorial Mine Disputes as a Local Sphere of Power. Famatina, La Rioja in Tucumán, 1812. Secuencia [online]. 2013, n.86, pp.55-74. ISSN 2395-8464.

This study is a contribution to historical knowledge, since it deals with a virtually unknown period and topic in Argentinean historiography. It begins by providing a partial description of certain aspects of the political history of La Rioja during the early 19th century, on which there are practically no existing studies (see the texts of Vega Diaz -1943 and 1947-and of Bazán -1979-, the last of which is a popular history of La Rioja). At the same time, it analyzes an issue that is virtually unknown or has been overlooked in Argentinean historiography, namely the council of mines and the issues derived from this. Lastly, it constitutes an interesting contribution, in that it shows alternative solutions to the questions raised by the Revolution that would lead to Independence.

Keywords : Territorial council; mines; local power; La Rioja; 19th century; sovereignty.
