Abstract

CRESPO, Regina. Diplomatic Approaches: Mexico in the Correspondence of the Itamaraty Palace (1919-1939). Secuencia [online]. 2013, n.86, pp.139-166. ISSN 2395-8464.

This article analyzes the way political and cultural relations evolved between Mexico and Brazil during the period from 1919 to 1939 on the basis of the study of the correspondence between Brazilian diplomatic representatives in Mexico. It seeks to understand the extent to which Brazil's historic political and cultural isolation on the continent, its traditional policy of alignment with the United States and the obvious conservatism of its government intervene in the image its diplomats constructed of Mexico and Mexicans in their analysis of the country's cultural and political events.

Keywords : Mexico; Brazil; diplomatic relations; diplomatic correspondence; Abelardo Roças.
