The author studies the Álvarez Campana family, resident in Cádiz and linked to American trade from the 18th century onwards. The article focuses mainly on Cadiz resident José Álvarez Campana. It explores aspects of family life and its link with commercial activity, and the creation of social and trade networks between Cadiz and certain American areas, especially Veracruz.
