Abstract

ZAVALA, Ana. Reading History Textbooks from the Perspective of Analytical Tools. Secuencia [online]. 2014, n.90, pp.167-189. ISSN 2395-8464.

Unlike many lines of research, which reach the conclusion that history manuals serve objectives that are not strictly cognitive (such as the construction of various identities), this work proposes to build on this conclusion to provide new analytical tools for interpreting history manuals. It then seeks to explore in depth the relationship between the textbook and the historiographical knowledge possessed by the authors. It thereby offers a series of analytical tools, primarily to assist history teachers, to account for the ways in which the author(s) handle the link between the textbook and other texts -particularly historiographical ones.

Keywords : History of history teaching; history textbooks; intertextuality; Analytical tools; discourse analysis; clinical approach.
