Abstract

POLASTRELLI, Irina. Dissidence for Justice. Reactions to the Crisis of the Monarchy in Rio de la Plata, 1808-1810. Secuencia [online]. 2016, n.96, pp.45-72. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i96.1405.

The judicial file opened between 1808 and 1810 against Saturnino Rodríguez Peña and Diego Paroissien for their “pro-independence” projects for Rio de la Plata shows the various reactions, the “fears” and “hopes” caused by the crisis of the monarchy. The article describes some of the features of political dissidence by defining the crime reported, and the strategies and arguments used by the actors involved in the case to secure their positions in the confusion caused by the actual vacancy.

Keywords : political dissidence; crisis of the monarchy; judgments; independence; Río de la Plata.
