Abstract

BAZANT, Mílada. The Challenges of Writing a Biography. Secuencia [online]. 2018, n.100, pp.53-84. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i100.1518.

This article discusses some of the challenges facing historians when writing biographies. Interpreting the subjects’ feelings and emotions, the fabric of the story of their lives, the roles they played and the various contexts (intimate, familial, local, national, international) they “touch”, becomes a complex task. The essay proposes a number of strategies that may prove useful, such as using a literary structure or dealing with polemic issues in this historical genre such as verisimilitude, fiction and narrative.

Keywords : Biography; constructive and narrative strategies; geographical spaces; verisimilitude; fiction.
