This text analyzes a conflict experienced by two railway companies, the Federal District Railroad Company and the Tramways Limited Liability Company with the Federal District Correspondence, in the period 1878-1882. Its study reveals the functioning, interaction and confrontation between institutions at the different levels of government. It also highlights the positive consequences of this confrontation for the extension of the railway network in the capital of the country, among other aspects.
