Abstract

ZAPATA RIVERA, Rosa Verónica. Union Struggles in California’s Agriculture in the 1930s. Secuencia [online]. 2022, n.112, e1813.  Epub Mar 07, 2022. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i112.1813.

This paper will review two of the most significant moments of agricultural union struggles in California during the first three decades of the 20th century. The goal is to show how, through the coordination of actions between various actors and instances, it was possible to embark on the road towards the consolidation of the Californian agricultural labor market, where agro-industrial interests prevailed over those of workers, not without significant confrontations and disagreements.

Keywords : Mexican agricultural workers in California; unions; strikes; consulate; agro-business.
