This paper deals with the importance of dairy farms and stables for dairy self-sufficiency in the east of Mexico City, in Iztapalapa, particularly of rancho San Cristóbal in San Juanico Nextipac, from 1955 to 1975. It was a key event in the life of Mexico City that has scarcely been explored in the humanities, mainly by historians. In this article, priority is therefore given to oral testimonials over other sources, making special use of oral history methodology. In addition, the spatial transformations that affected the dairies and ranches in the mid-1970s are addressed due to government authorities’ provisions, which at the time considered necessary to deal with certain social phenomena caused by urbanization.
