Abstract

VAN DER WAL, JC; ESPINOZA-LOPEZ, R  and  DZIB-CASTILLO, B. Preliminary evaluation of selective forest clearance to establish Diversfied pasture lands in San José Carpizo No 1, Campeche, Mexico. Universidad y ciencia [online]. 2011, vol.27, n.2, pp.219-226. ISSN 0186-2979.

In order to prepare land for pasture, trees in 9 and 20 year old secondary vegetation were selectively harvested in Campeche, Mexico, leaving useful trees untouched. Survival was calculated after burning. In 9 year old vegetation, 25% of the standing trees survived, and in 20 year old vegetation, 65% survived. Selective clearance may modestly contribute to preserve biomass and tree diversity in pasture lands.

Keywords : Animal husbandry; selective clearance; burning; survival.
