Abstract

AKE-LOPEZ, JR; HERRERA-CAMACHO, J; QUINTAL-FRANCO, JA  and  SEGURA-CORREA, JC. Effect of flunixin meglumine on the length of the estrous cycle and luteal phase of Pelibuey ewes. Universidad y ciencia [online]. 2011, vol.27, n.2, pp.233-238. ISSN 0186-2979.

The effect of flunixin meglumine (FM) on the length of the luteal phase (LFL) and estrous cycle (LCE) of Pelibuey ewes was evaluated. The ewes were treated, IM for eight days, starting on day 11 of the estrous cycle (oestrus = day 0), considering a) a control group (GT, n = 14) 1.5 ml sterile water once a day (06:00 h), b) group FM-1 (n=14) 2.2 mg kg-1 of FM once a day (06:00 h) and c) group FM-2 (n=15) 4.4 mg kg-1 of FM twice a day (06:00 and 18:00 h). Both the LFL (16.0 ± 0.51 d) and LCE (20.5 ± 0.47 d) were longer (p < 0.05) in group FM-2 than in group GT (11.7 ± 0.51 and 17.2 ± 0.47 d, respectively) and group FM-1 (13.3 ± 0.53 and 18.8 ± 0.47 d, respectively). The application of FM twice a day increased the LLP and the LCE in Pelibuey ewes.
