Abstract

BACCI, Massimo Livi. Europe and America in the Geodemographic Revolution. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2005, vol.20, n.1, pp.23-36.  Epub Oct 17, 2019. ISSN 2448-6515.  https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v20i1.1228.

This paper establishes a parallel between Europe and America as regards both its demographic experiences in the past with the New World and the future repercussions of both regions in a globalized world.

The author uses various indicators to illustrate the transitions in Europe which experienced a shift from a society with an abundance of human resources to one with a shortage of the latter. Within this quantitative-qualitative framework, he explains the particularities and “solutions” to the crisis of the social state in the European case and the viability of applying policies to reverse the trend of low birth rates and migration largely from overseas.

Keywords : geography of Europe; America; immigration; demographic expansion; social state; birth rate policies and migration.
