Abstract

LOPEZ GUERRA, Verónica  and  ROJAS, Olga Lorena. Shortcomings in the level of autonomy of Mexican rural women in the first decade of the XXI century. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2017, vol.32, n.2, pp.315-354. ISSN 2448-6515.  https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v32i2.1644.

Considering the progress made in the status of Mexican women in addition to the transformation of Mexican countryside in recent decades, we analyzed the level of autonomy of rural women comparing to their urban counterparts considering some sociodemographic characteristics. We use data from the National Survey on the Dynamics of Household Relationships (ENDIREH) 2011. Our findings suggest that rural women still lag behind urban women, although there are some nuances if we consider some sociodemographic variables.

Keywords : female autonomy; gender; rural women; urban women; Mexico.
