Abstract

CABRERA PEREYRA, José Antonio; ALVAREZ LOBATO, José Antonio  and  GARROCHO, Carlos. Agglomeration and coagglomeration of tech-based firms in Toluca’s intrametropolitan space, 2010 - 2020. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2024, vol.39, n.1, e2156.  Epub June 07, 2024. ISSN 2448-6515.  https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v39i1.2156.

This paper reveals, locates, and delimits agglomerations and co-agglomerations of technology-based industries (EBT) in the Metropolitan Area of Toluca (ZMT) for 2010 and 2020. The method uses spatial functions M and m, which are multiscale point pattern analysis techniques that are beginning to be applied globally and do not have antecedents in Mexico. These functions operate in continuous spaces and avoid the severe problem of modifiable spatial unit, which affects numerous geo-economic analyses. In the ZMT, the transport industry is the articulating axis of EBT’s agglomeration and co-agglomeration processes. Finally, we outline key policy options and a strategic research agenda.

Keywords : agglomeration; co-agglomeration; tech- nological base industries; functions M; m; multiscale methods; point pattern analysis; economic geography.
