Abstract

PEREZ FRANCO, María Lilia. La noción de “espíritu” en las sociologías de Werner Sombart y Max Weber. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2005, vol.20, n.59, pp.27-59. ISSN 2007-8358.

The notion of “spirit” developed by Werner Sombart and Max Weber in their studies about the processes that have historically configured the modern mentality is a classic contribution that allows us to reflect theoretically and methodologically about the development of capitalism as a complex system of social interactions that cannot be reduced to its economic structure. Spirit is a concept that relates the action of individuals and social groups, their expectations and links, with the potential for industrial development, the market and specialized labor, typical of a historical period. While both authors use this concept, its content and analytical role is different in each.

Keywords : capitalist spirit; Sombart; Weber; modern mentality.
