Abstract

BALLESTEROS LEINER, Arturo. La noción beruf en la sociología de Max Weber y su inserción en la sociología de las profesiones. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2005, vol.20, n.59, pp.61-91. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article deals with the idea of professional closure in Max Weber’s study on the notion of profession (“beruf”). It looks at his works on the subject, above all The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, to delineate some of the consequences of the suggested way of looking at the problem. It includes a brief review of some of the current positions about the sociology of professions, emphasizing those linked to Weber and that, therefore, concentrate their studies on topics like economic monopolization, professional closure and political legitimacy.

Keywords : profession; professional closure; professional rational ethics; sociology of professions; legitimacy; credentialism; social and institutional structure; motivational models.
