Abstract

LOPEZ LEVI, Liliana. Tijuana: imaginarios globales, fortificaciones locales. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2008, vol.23, n.66, pp.121-153. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article analyzes the urban landscape from a post-modern cultural perspective examining phenomena like fear, consumption and segregation. It centers particularly on Tijuana's closed neighborhood developments, which in themselves are the reflection of social imaginaries, to create fortified spaces with simulated surroundings. These are worldwide processes with local specificities that can be identified based on the discourses of local authorities, real estate developers and residents, which intertwine geographically and are manifested in real estate development, publicity, architecture and the community created.

Keywords : closed real estate developments; border; Tijuana; urban imaginaries; fear; real estate market.
