Abstract

SERRET, Estela. La conformación reflexiva de las identidades trans. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2009, vol.24, n.69, pp.79-100. ISSN 2007-8358.

Trans identities are constituted in the confluence of at least two discursive practices: the discourse of experts and that of political activism. Both offer a variegated group of people the elements they need to name and situate themselves in the complex web of gender identities. Transexuals, intersexuals, transvestites and transgendered people have been able to name themselves, and from there, sketch the contours of their identity profiles thanks to the reflexive play between the medical-scientific discourse, which since the nineteenth century has propitiated the invention of sex, and the political sociological discourse of LGBTT otherness.

Keywords : transexuality; reflexive modernity; construction of sex; feminisms; medical discourse; LGBTT activism.
