Abstract

SABIDO RAMOS, Olga. The Body and Affectivity as Objects of Study in Latin America: Thematic Interests and the Recent Process of Institutionalization. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2011, vol.26, n.74, pp.33-78. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article does a first mapping of the current state of interest in the body and affectivity in Latin America from the point of view of the social sciences in general and sociology in particular. The allusion to Latin America is not as a geographical entity, but rather an analysis of a regional institutional channel for sociology: the Latin American Sociology Association. The article underlines how, at the same time that internationally shared horizons for interpretation that have taken a turn toward these topics prevail, specific regional characteristics can be discerned, related to social problems, focuses on specific historic experiences, particular theoretical frameworks, and precedents of the institutionalization of themes that are precursors in these areas.

Keywords : sociology of science; body; affectivity; emotions; Latin America; Latin American Sociology Association (ALAS).
