Abstract

BELTRAME, Florencia. Constituting Insecurity as a Social Issue and the New Strategies for Crime Control in Argentina. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2013, vol.28, n.80, pp.189-208. ISSN 2007-8358.

In recent decades, insecurity has emerged as one of the priority issues on the national agendas of different Latin American countries. Increased crime rates and the high levels of perceived feelings of insecurity have prompted the development of crime prevention and control policies that emphasize control of the "new crimes" against persons and property. This article analyzes how the problem of insecurity is presented today through these policies and how it relates to social issues.

Keywords : crime; public safety; insecurity; security policies; prevention; social issues.
