Abstract

Based on a review of the literature in the field of the internationalization of higher education in science, technology, and innovation, this article seeks to contribute to filling in some vacuums by supplying elements about the conditions and reasons that made it possible for different generations of Mexicans to see studying, exchanges, or stays abroad as opportunities and make them part of their experience and training. In addition, the article explores the link between structural and individual conditions that made it possible for different kinds of expectations to exist about academic and scientific mobility in their respective cases in three generations of Mexicans.
