Abstract

ARTEAGA A., Catalina. The Diversity of Positional Experiences in the Context of Transformations of Chile’s Social Structure. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2017, vol.32, n.91, pp.45-75. ISSN 2007-8358.

One of sociology’s important questions involves the processes of social stratification. In the case of Chile, significant transformations in the social structure in recent decades and changes in the field of work, among other processes, have blurred the lines between social groups. Based on an analysis of qualitative material produced about different social groups (businesspersons, middle-class groups, workers, and marginalized population) in Santiago and Valparaíso, the article delves into an analysis of what the author calls “positional experiences,” positing the existence of four logics of social positioning.

Keywords : social stratification; social position; social experience; positional experiences; subject.
