Abstract

LOPEZ PEREZ, Carolina. Communication and Feelings from the Viewpoint of Niklas Luhmann’s Social Systems Theory. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2018, vol.33, n.93, pp.53-86. ISSN 2007-8358.

Using Niklas Luhmann’s social systems theory, this article explains how society intervenes in the emergence of human feelings through the social authorization that communication exercises in their creation. The central argument focuses on the conceptualization of the individual feeling as a psychic system structurally linked to another of a different kind: society. In these terms, the author problematizes and resolves the basic question: how does consciousness require communication to be able to feel? Finally, she briefly illustrates the theoretical reasoning used in the analysis of love, examining it as a feeling and as communication.

Keywords : love; communication; consciousness; language; feelings.
