Abstract

MENESES REYES, Marcela  and  SILVA AGUILAR, Sandra Tanisha. From Banquets to the Streets. The Impact of Structural Differences on the #YoSoy132 Movement and Its Organizational Nuclei. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2018, vol.33, n.95, pp.159-187. ISSN 2007-8358.

In this article, the authors seek to demonstrate how the difference and inequality of different kinds of capital (economic, political, social, and cultural) among young students at public and private universities imposed themselves on their ongoing, joint organizational capability over time, regardless of the discourses and good will involved. Through a series of interviews with participants in the #YoSoy132 movement, the authors identify the tensions, contradictions, and internal breaks that took place as the movement expanded, and their later dissemination in other organizational nuclei that has allowed them to act politically in different political moments, but with a clear difference in methods, directions, and objectives for their action.

Keywords : young university students; forms of capital; organizational nuclei; #YoSoy132; social movements.
