Abstract

SANCHEZ, Luis Triana. Citizenship and Support for Democracy in Guerrero. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.97, pp.249-289.  Epub Jan 25, 2020. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article describes a local study on the support for democracy in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. The author identifies the main determining factors suggested by the literature in national and international empirical studies in order to estimate the logistical regression with data from the State Survey on Quality of Citizenship in Guerrero, explaining the probability that the citizenry prefers democracy to any other form of government, as related to their surroundings, the political culture, and other socio-demographic variables. The results show differentiated support for democracy among different segments of the citizenry, influenced by household income, social class, being the beneficiary of a social program, confidence in institutions, electoral participation, and education. These findings motivate the author to deepen his research into support for democracy on a local level.

Keywords : political culture; support for democracy; logistical regression; statistical analysis; Guerrero.
