Abstract

HERNANDEZ MARTINEZ, Dulce Carolina. From the Adequacy Approach to the Competency-based Approach: A Look at Sociology Graduates’ Labor Market Insertion. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.98, pp.189-219.  Epub Mar 09, 2021. ISSN 2007-8358.

Since higher education became a mass phenomenon, the insertion of university graduates into the labor market has become complex: they have to deal with new challenges presented to them by their economic, social, and cultural context. This makes it simplistic to analyze their inclusion from the cause/effect standpoint, referring to the supposition that certain professions offer only a limited number of jobs. The objective of this article is to underscore the graduate’s active role in the education/employment relationship, with the understanding that it is complex.

Keywords : education; labor market; adequacy approach; competencies.
