Abstract

FERNANDEZ PONCELA, Anna María. Voting: Candidates and Emotions. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2020, vol.35, n.99, pp.167-208.  Epub Mar 09, 2021. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article looks at emotions and their relationship to voting: concretely, the impact of emotions on Mexico’s 2018 presidential election. The author first reviews the conceptual and contextual literature on the issue. Then, she analyzes survey results on voters’ emotions about the four presidential contenders. The outcome points to a political-emotional polarization that underlines hope and security, on the one hand, and anger on the other.

Keywords : emotions; voting; elections; candidates; Mexico.
