Abstract

ESPINOSA LUNA, Carolina. The Social Configuration of the SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic. A Sociological Essay. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2021, vol.36, n.102, pp.279-290.  Epub Sep 13, 2021. ISSN 2007-8358.

Using an approach rooted in the sociologies of risk, medicine, and disaster, the author proposes seven concepts for the study of SARS-CoV-2: disruption, social causality, totality, regularity, unpredictability, uncertainty, and emergency. And while these concepts are involved in other social phenomena, she argues here that during the pandemic, they take on distinctive characteristics. Finally, she reflects on the tasks of social sciences today.

Keywords : sociology; social theory; COVID-19; social disaster.
