Abstract

ANTONIO LOPEZ, Jairo. Social movements and communication: Integration that goes beyond technological determinisms. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.105, e0006.  Epub Nov 18, 2022. ISSN 2007-8358.

The article propose a discussion about the relationship between social movements and communication. It identifies as trends in specialized literature the study of the logics of external influence of social movements towards the media and the logics of appropriation-creation of communication media by the movements. It is argues that the theoretical-methodological proposal developed by Bart Cammaerts, based on the categories of the protest circuit and mediation opportunity structures, manages to integrate these tendencies, allowing an analysis of social processes beyond the technological determinism that usually exists in research on social movements and communication, taking up a sociological perspective that questions mediations and cultural practices according to each context.

Keywords : social movements; protest; communication; sociology of communication; mediation.
