Abstract

GUERRA, Edgar. Levels, Dimensions, and mechanisms of sociological analysis of violence and organized crime in Mexico. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.105, e0009.  Epub Nov 18, 2022. ISSN 2007-8358.

Studies on violence linked to criminal organizations have focused mainly on the observation of structural factors, such as the conditions of illegal markets and the conflict between criminal groups and the Armed Forces. Most of these analyzes have used quantitative methodologies and aggregated data. While in the case of qualitative designs, it has mostly been limited to presenting empirical results. This essay, based on extensive experience in the field, aims to develop holistic analyzes based on three lines for the study of criminal violence in local contexts: levels, dimensions and mechanisms.

Keywords : criminal violence; criminal organizations; security agenda; illicit markets; local contexts.
