Abstract

The Revista Mexicana de Micología (RMM) was first published in 1968 as Boletín Informativo de la Sociedad Mexicana de Micología, name that it maintain during the first 3 volumes (1968-1969), later it was called Boletín de la Sociedad Mexicana de Micología (1971-1984) and then 17 volumes more were published. This publication was focused to disseminate the activities of the society, but soon it turned into a scientific journal because of the impetus, seriousness and work quality of the first publishers. In 1985 it changed its name to the actual one and 26 volumes have been published until June 2008. In its 40 years of uninterrupted publishing, the RMM has published 607 papers with the participation of 604 authors and 136 institutions from 20 countries in America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Among the topics most frequently highlighted Biodiversity, Plant Pathology, Mushroom Cultivation and Medical Mycology. Since 2004, the RMM is published every six months and is freely available in digital format. Recently it has been considered as a journal of excellence by the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACYT) and is ranked by various indicators of international scientific journals. An historical analysis of the RMM is presented and its possibilities for growth and consolidation are considered.
