Abstract

VALERIO LUNA, Sarai Guadalupe; QUINTERO LIZAOLA, Roberto; BACA CASTILLO, Gustavo Adolfo de Jesús  and  QUISPE LIMAYLLA, Aníbal Griceldo. Ammonium uptake in zeolite during incubation of quail poultry manure. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2016, vol.34, n.2, pp.201-206. ISSN 2395-8030.

In order to determine the effect of zeolite on the volatilization of carbon dioxide (CO2) and ammonia (NH3), an incubation assay was established for 20 days under controlled conditions of humidity and temperature. Quail manure and zeolite were mixed in different quantities, for a total of 8 treatments in a 24 factorial design. Emissions of CO2 and NH3 were measured daily. The results were evaluated using the statistical package (SAS) and Tukey test. Significant differences were obtained when the amounts of zeolite were evaluated with respect to emissions. The results show that zeolite helps decrease NH3 and did not affect microbial activity. It is concluded that zeolite captures ammonium ion in its structure and does not permit its transformation to NH3.

Keywords : CO2; NH3; microorganisms.
