Abstract

GARCIA JURADO, Roberto. Cuatro factores fundamentales en la teoría de la cultura política de Seymour M. Lipset. Argumentos (Méx.) [online]. 2007, vol.20, n.53, pp.119-139. ISSN 0187-5795.

Although Seymour M. Lipset is well-known in the field of contemporary political science because of his proposition of the positive correlation between economic development and democracy, this paper propound that in his democratic theory the political culture is most important than economic development. Likewise, his theory of the political culture is itemized in order to consider the four factors that, in my opinion, are most important: protestantism, productive education, pluralist personality, and weak class conscience. These four factors are itemized at length in the paper and are critical revised in order to reconsider the theoretical contribution of Lipset.

Keywords : cultura política; protestantismo; extremismo político; conciencia de clase; excepcionalismo.
