Abstract

GUERRA MANZO, Enrique. La salvación de las almas: Estado e Iglesia en la pugna por las masas, 1920-1940. Argumentos (Méx.) [online]. 2007, vol.20, n.55, pp.121-153. ISSN 0187-5795.

This article review the process by means of which the Church and State struggle for the hegemonic over the masses between 1920 and 1940. The hypothesis is that had two projects of social order that polarized to the Mexican Society in different fields (religious, educational, social). Behind of this fights is possible to find a "mass's crisis of participation" in the public sphere and a crisis of secularization. The first crisis mark the born of postrevolutionary Mexican State and is resolve by the process of packing of the masses in the official political party during the presidential period cardenista (1934-1940) and the conformation of a modus vivendi but not such the crisis of secularization.
