Abstract

ORTIZ LEROUX, Sergio. La crisis del Estado mexicano: una lectura desde el republicanismo de Maquiavelo. Argumentos (Méx.) [online]. 2010, vol.23, n.64, pp.37-60. ISSN 0187-5795.

Mexico is experiencing a political crisis, associated with the erosion of the republican foundations of its State. This article offers a key to understand this crisis from the republican theory of Machiavelli, which assumes that the State emerges in order to control the desires of domination of the powerful (the "Great") as well as represent the will of the weak (the People) not to be dominated. The State accomplishes that purpose in an impersonal way, through the use of Law as is taught by ancient Rome. In the case of Mexico, the erosion of the republican foundations of the state is evidenced by the dominance of actors as the mass media, the Catholic Church and organized crime linked to drug trafficking.

Keywords : State; Republicanism; Machiavelli; Law; Liberty.
