Abstract

PEREZ EXPOSITO, Leonel. Participación adolescente en la secundaria: explorando lo deseable, lo potencial y lo permisible. Argumentos (Méx.) [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.74, pp.47-71. ISSN 0187-5795.

The article raises the need to develop a regulatory framework for Mexico City’s secondary schools, as a factor of possibility for the development of quality adolescent participation. It sustains why adolescent participation in school is important and necessary, identifies fundamental characteristics of the potential practices that respond to such desirable participation, and discusses the extent to which schools have a regulatory framework that allows the realization of the potential in specific school contexts. The article finds that while the regulatory framework includes a discourse on inclusion, participation, children’s rights, and democracy, it does not offer clear opportunities for its practical realization in secondary schools.

Keywords : secondary school; adolescent participation; inclusion; children’s rights.
