Abstract
CANO-DIAZ, Viridiana C.; CORTINA-VILLAR, Sergio and SOTO-PINTO, Lorena. La construcción de la acción colectiva en una comunidad del Área Natural Protegida: La Frailescana, Chiapas, México. Argumentos (Méx.) [online]. 2015, vol.28, n.77, pp.79-96. ISSN 0187-5795.
Collective action is, under some community contexts, a requirement to conserve natural resources. This paper analyzes how collective action took place in an ejido located in the Natural Protected Area La Frailescana, Chiapas. Interviews and surveys on land use changes and the creation of new rules were applied. Changes in land use and forest induced by the management plan of the protected area have required a collective action based on rules, sanctions and monitoring. After the creation of the natural protected area, the community was reluctant to accept the restrictions imposed by government authorities because the agroecological and self-organizing costs involved. However, the program of Payment for Hydrological Environmental Services (PSAH) scheme initiated later facilitated the acceptance of rules by partially compensating the costs, and making feasible new forest uses in agreement with forest conservation policies.
