Abstract

PINEYRO NELSON, Carlos. Autonomía, democracia y gobierno de los comunes: El modelo Neozapatista. Argumentos (Méx.) [online]. 2015, vol.28, n.77, pp.99-127. ISSN 0187-5795.

This article addresses Elinor Ostrom"s core elements to analyze successful natural resources self-governing. Using the Neozapatistas autonomy and direct democracy model as an example of political self-government, we show the need to deepen Ostrom´s self-governing notions. Specifically, we focus on the need to create a multilevel bottom-top self-government, from the local and the municipal to the regional. Political education and improving their members" lives also play a key role in the Neozapatista model. Hence, the governing of the commons in the XXI century can use the former and the latter elements to expand its possibilities of success and create sustainable and autonomous models of governance.

Keywords : autonomy; governing the commons; neozapatismo.
