Abstract

SANCHEZ RODRIGUEZ, Roberto. Reflecting on the Border: A Search for Alternative Research Approaches. Frontera norte [online]. 2014, vol.26, n.spe3, pp.99-118. ISSN 2594-0260.

This article departs from recent contributions in the study of international borders in order to build a better understanding of the US-Mexico border. Despite advances in building better knowledge of this region in recent decades, research continues to be predominantly based on fragmented disciplinary approaches. This paper considers interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches to support theorizing on the border region. Building these approaches face a number of problems but it is a much-needed effort to update and improve our knowledge of the complex border realities.

Keywords : theorizing; interdisciplinarity; international borders; development; US-Mexico border.
