In the present document, the impact of the geographic proximity between the metropolitan areas on the manufacturing employment using the spatial shift-share analysis. The results show that functional inter­metropolitan interactions are weak, showing employment levels below the expected if they would take in account the geographic proximity. An important expansion of the manufacturing employment in the north­center region is highlighted, the opposite of its deceleration in the Valley of Mexico´s metropolitan areas.
