Abstract

RIUS DE LA POLA, María del Pilar. The University for me: My duality and uncertainty principle. Educ. quím [online]. 2011, vol.22, n.1, pp.75-79. ISSN 0187-893X.

Pilar Rius de la Pola has been declared winner of the "Contest of essays 2010" offered by the National and Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) entitled "The meaning of UNAM in my life", within the category of Faculty members. In her essay she mentions how she became a teacher in Mexico, after an overprotected childhood and the Spanish Civil War being a child. She finally became a quantum chemist, made computational calculations, wrote a book about it and lectured on Bohr's Wave Particle Duality and Heinsenberg Uncertainty Principle (that is the reason of the title of her essay). "To teach at UNAM is a great priviledge" she says. She also includes how to prepare the lesson, about the meetings of faculty members on crucial academic topics, the invitation to selected scientists to give conferences, in a few words, all that what makes possible to develop as an outstanding teacher.

Keywords : quantum chemistry education; attitude; interest; goals; outstanding teacher.
