Abstract

VILCHES, Amparo  and  GIL PEREZ, Daniel. Sustainability Science: A New Knowledge Domain to which Chemistry and Chemistry Education are contributing. Educ. quím [online]. 2013, vol.24, n.2, pp.199-206. ISSN 0187-893X.

The most diverse knowledge domains are currently contributing to the treatment of socio-environmental problems. Many papers and books have been published in the fields of Green Chemistry, Industrial Ecology, Environmental Engineering, Green Economy (low in carbon), Environmental Education, etc. But very recently it has been understood that these contributions are insufficient and that we need a Sustainability Science that integrates all of them. This paper studies the emergence of this new field of knowledge and research, which explicit aim is to contribute to the transition to a sustainable society.

Keywords : sustainability science; education for sustainability; green chemistry; scientific revolution.
