Abstract

CHAPELA, Andrea  and  GARRITZ, Andoni. Science on Stage: Three Approaches to Chemistry. Educ. quím [online]. 2013, vol.24, n.3, pp.262-267. ISSN 0187-893X.

Science outreach encloses any approach to the teaching of science for the general public. Nowadays, this integration is more important than before because it is necessary that a person develops the ability to understand and make decisions based on scientific knowledge. This article presents three different approaches to the teaching of chemistry in three countries. First, in Colorado State University a group of undergrads presents science shows with pop culture references to engage their audience. Then in Puerto Rico the program Science on Wheels has been functioning for the last 20 years, and it's looking to bring science to every school in the country. Finally, in Mexico a play with scientific overtones intents to motivate the public, and to educate them on the pivotal role of science in our everyday life. With these examples, the article aims to present the importance of this kind of programs in a community.

Keywords : chemistry education; science outreach; science literacy.
