Abstract
CRUJEIRAS-PEREZ, Beatriz and PEREZ-VIDAL, David. Assessing the potential of handout-embeded scaffolding to engage high school students in planning a scientific investigation. Educ. quím [online]. 2018, vol.29, n.4, pp.109-119. ISSN 0187-893X. https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2018.4.63133.
This study analyses the potential of the handout-embedded scaffolding to support high school students in planning a scientific investigation. The participants are 61 high school students from three different grades (8, 9 and 10) corresponding to 14, 15 and 16 years old respectively attending Physics and Chemistry lessons. The task is framed in the context of dairy industry, in particular in a problem of precipitation in fresh milk, for which students should plan an investigation to find out what caused the lumpy precipitate. For data analysis, we examine students' written plans and compare each performance to a reference framework for solving the task. The main results point to a low efficiency of the handout-scaffolding provided.
