La Industria Nacional Químico-Farmacéutica, S.A. de C.V. y P.E. (INQFA), inaugurated in 1949, was the first Mexican drug company established with public investment. Assembled from foreign companies confiscated during Second World War, INQFA was one of the first companies to carry out organic synthesis of therapeutic molecules in Mexican territory. Within its different branches, renowned Mexican and foreign chemists were at play, making it one of the most important drug companies of its time. The aim of this paper is to analyze the factors that took place in the creation, development and dismantling of INQFA, as an outstanding case study of commercial enterprise and scientific organization for students and professionals of pharmaceutical sciences.
