Abstract

ESTRADA FLORES, Susana Lucia et al. An overview of Organic Electronics. Educ. quím [online]. 2022, vol.33, n.2, pp.3-17.  Epub Nov 28, 2022. ISSN 0187-893X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2022.2.79879.

In this review the value of organic semiconductors in the manufacture of optoelectronic devices is highlighted, as well as some fundamental concepts of molecular structure, which must be considered in the design of the semiconductor molecule. Some advantages and disadvantages of organic semiconductors over inorganic semiconductors are discussed. To understand the structure-properties relationship of this type of molecules, the basic concepts about organic electronics are presented, the importance of band gap engineering (Eg); as well as the operation, physicochemical characteristics, optoelectronic properties, and applications in organic solar cells (OPVs and DSSC), Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) and Organic Field Effect Transistors (OFETs).

Keywords : Organic semiconductors; optoelectronics; band gap; molecular design; applications.
