This research work proposes, with a solid theoretical foundation, the application of problem-based teaching for the subject of “Chemical changes” in the 4th ESO (Educación Secundaria Obligatoria). The contents are those required in the curriculum of the subject of Physics and Chemistry of this course in the official state bulletin (BOE). Its main objective is to present a sequence of activities designed for students’ understanding of chemical reactions, and all its content is oriented towards the justification of this sequence.
