Abstract

''Statins'' are drugs used to lower first-line serum cholesterol levels and cardiovascular prevention, both primary and secondary. Associated with myopathic syndromes ranging from myalgias statin myositis to rhabdomyolysis. The case of a woman 70 years of age with coronary artery disease trivascular, optimal treatment that included a picture of simvastatin and 7 days of evolution characterized by disorientation, myopathy and anuria, biochemical evidence of muscle damage, renal failure and elevation of hepatic transaminases, concluding rhabdomyolysis and acute hepatic and renal failure. Its evolution with treatment in place and development of fatal infectious complications. Review of the literature with definition of clinical variables that establish a risk profile for developing muscle complications from use of statin and the impact on identification and treatment.
